Frequently Asked Questions
-
Acupuncture is a form of Chinese medicine that involves inserting very thin needles into specific points on the body. It’s commonly used to help manage pain, relieve stress, and support overall well-being. Treatments are tailored to your individual needs and goals.
-
Not at all! You don’t need any prior experience or knowledge. I’ll walk you through the process, answer your questions, and explain anything you’re curious about. You can simply show up as you are.
-
Acupuncture is commonly used to support people experiencing pain, muscle tension, stress, anxiety, headaches, sleep difficulties, irregular cycles, postpartum recovery, and many other concerns. Everyone is different, so we’ll discuss your symptoms and goals to determine whether acupuncture may be a good fit for you.

-
That’s completely normal, especially if it’s your first time! I’ll explain what to expect and check in with you throughout your treatment. You’re always welcome to ask questions, share concerns, or let me know if you need a break.

I’m an out-of-network provider, so I don’t bill insurance companies directly. However, I can provide a superbill upon request after your visit for individual acupuncture, Acupuncture Plus, and telehealth herbal medicine. You can submit it to your insurance company for possible reimbursement, depending on your plan’s out-of-network benefits. Superbills aren’t available for group acupuncture or add-on herbal prescriptions.
Acupuncture and herbal medicine may also qualify for HSA/FSA funds, depending on your plan.

General Information
-
Acupuncture needles are very thin—much thinner than the needles used for injections. You may feel a little pinch, a dull ache, tingling, or a sensation of heaviness, but many people find acupuncture surprisingly comfortable. You might even feel relaxed enough to doze off!
-
We’ll start by talking about your health history, current concerns, and treatment goals. Based on that conversation, I’ll develop an individualized treatment approach and explain what I recommend. You’ll then get comfortable while I place the needles. The needles typically remain in place for around 20–30 minutes, depending on your treatment.
-
Clear a space of about 6x8 feet for a treatment table, wear loose, comfortable clothing, and have something to eat beforehand. If you have pets, please put them in another room during the session. Depending on which sessions you book, details will be sent beforehand.
-
Many people feel relaxed, calm, or refreshed after treatment. You may also notice temporary soreness or fatigue, similar to how you might feel after a massage. Responses vary, and you don’t need to feel a particular sensation for treatment to be beneficial. I recommend giving yourself a little time to rest and noticing how you feel afterward.
-
It depends on your individual concerns, how long you’ve been experiencing them, and how you respond to treatment. Some people notice changes after one session, while others benefit from a series of treatments. We’ll discuss a treatment plan that makes sense for your goals and circumstances.
-
Group acupuncture is a way to experience acupuncture alongside friends, family, or other members of your community. I offer group sessions in a private residence, making them a fun option for gatherings, birthdays, bachelorette parties, or simply taking time to unwind together. Sessions use a specific ear acupuncture protocol, and Chinese herbal tea will be provided.
Acupuncture
Chinese Herbal Medicine
-
Chinese herbal medicine uses a combination of herbs selected to support your individual health needs. Formulas are chosen based on your symptoms, health history, and overall presentation rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
-
Nope! Acupuncture and herbal medicine can be used together or separately. You can choose the service that best fits your needs, and we’ll discuss your options during your appointment.
-
Herbal appointments take place virtually and begin with an in-depth intake covering your health history, symptoms, lifestyle, and goals. We’ll discuss your concerns and determine a custom Chinese herbal formula that is appropriate for you. Instructions for use will be provided, and you will have the option to either pick up your formula at a medicinary in Denver, or have it shipped directly to you.
-
Chinese herbs are generally very safe, but like anything we ingest into our bodies, herbs may cause side effects and can interact with medications or supplements. That’s why it’s important to share your complete health history, current medications and supplements before starting a formula. I’ll review the recommendations and relevant precautions with you.
-
This depends on your concerns, the formula recommended, and how you respond. Some people use herbs for a shorter period, while others may benefit from longer-term support. We’ll discuss your plan and reassess as needed.
Home Visits & Telehealth
-
Before your appointment, I’ll send you the details for your visit, including a few simple ways to prepare. I bring everything needed for treatment, including a treatment table, and all I need from you is a quiet, comfortable space of about 6×8 feet. When I arrive, I’ll set up, review your health history and goals, and then provide your treatment while you rest. Afterward, I’ll pack up and leave your space just as I found it, so you can stay relaxed at home.

Yes. Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can complement one another, although neither is required to receive the other. Herbal prescriptions are offered as an add-on to either the Acupuncture or Acupuncture Plus appointment.
